Automotive student to show off skills in international competition

Nathan Bulthuis, a junior in automotive technology, will show his skills on an international stage in September when he represents the United States in automotive technology at the 2024 WorldSkills Competition.


Analysis of 2024 ‘active threat’ training  

The 2024 annual emergency exercises were successful, allowing professionals in several campus departments to ascertain how the university provides services for its community in the hours after an immediate threat to safety has passed, officials say.


School of Theater and Dance to show farce ‘Criminal Genius’

A play about what can happen when you don’t take responsibility comes to the McLeod Theater stage Thursday through Saturday, May 2-5. “Criminal Genius,” a farcical comedy of missteps, follows the struggles of three criminals in their unsuccessful arson attempt to torch a restaurant.


Memorial service for former Chancellor Goldman is May 5 

A memorial service for former SIU Carbondale Chancellor Samuel Goldman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the Student Center Ballrooms.


Saluki Takeover Tour continues this week

The first week of the Saluki Takeover Tour of Southern Illinois was a tremendous success. In the second week, many other school visits and Chancellor’s Receptions are on the calendar, including today, April 29, at Alto Vineyards. The keystone event will be Saturday, May 4, at Walker’s Bluff Casino Resort in Carterville.


Reminder: Faculty, staff sought for May 11 commencement volunteers 

Volunteer opportunities remain available for faculty, staff and members of the community who would like to assist graduating Salukis as they celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale’s commencement exercises at Banterra Center on May 11.


‘Parallels’ to feature requiem, folksongs at Shryock Auditorium April 30   

SIU’s Choral Union, Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra will showcase their talents at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in Shryock Auditorium. Admission is free, and the performance is open to the public.


Shryock Auditorium hosts SIU Jazz Ensemble Saturday

The premiere of works aimed at emphasizing the importance of peace will be featured by the SIU Jazz Ensemble at Shryock Auditorium in a free, public concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4.


Student Employee of the Year and other outstanding student workers honored

Five student employees and Kim Baskin, campus visit program supervisor for Undergraduate Admissions, were recognized for their efforts earlier this month. Pearl Williams, a senior fashion studies major from Chicago and worker at Rainbow’s End Child Development Center, was the 2023-2024 Student Employee of the Year.


Reminder: SIU System Faculty Collaboration Award nominations open 

Applications for the SIU System 2024 Faculty Collaboration Award are being accepted. The award recognizes faculty for impactful collaborative endeavors across campuses in the areas of teaching, scholarship and creative activities, service and/or antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion. Apply online by May 10.


SIU Today begins summer schedule May 16 

After the spring semester ends on Saturday, May 11, SIU Today will begin its summer schedule and come out once a week, each Thursday, beginning May 16. Submission deadlines will remain the same. May 7 is the deadline for the May 9 edition.
